Is Beauty Worth More?

Magazines sell it. Books and movies idolize it. Some girls supposedly have it. I think we can all agree that beauty is a pretty big deal in our world. And it’s not even a bad thing; God is the Creator of beauty and He made us to appreciate it. Yet it’s often turned into something ugly.

You’ve seen the movies. The beautiful girl is popular. She is well-liked. Yet a lot of times it is completely based off of her outside appearance, rather than inward character. What’s a girl to do in a world that tells her that if she is “beautiful” then she is worth more?

Some girls live to be told that they are pretty. Think of picture filters. Add the right lighting and there’s a totally new girl. Maybe not a completely real one, but who cares? There isn’t anything wrong with filters, after all. Well, there isn’t, but what you do to your face can really have an effect on your heart, if given the chance.

God says something totally different. You were created in His image! He is our Father, and it is so much more honoring to Him to spend your time focused on doing His will and becoming the person He created you to be. It really is freeing to let go of the cares of the world and rest in Him.

I studied inner beauty a lot for an article I wrote for Shining Stars magazine about a year ago. Going into it, I really thought I could come up with a better topic. But… I really learned about how God wants us to act as His daughters. You see, if you are seeking the Lord in everything you do, you will become more and more like Him everyday. That is way more beautiful than anything makeup brushes and curling wands can offer!

  3. It is so true that real beauty comes from the inside out. Not the outside in.

Proverbs 31 is the great “model” Christian women look after; and physical beauty isn’t mentioned among the characteristics given. In fact, verse 30 says, “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain:
but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”

And that’s just the way it should be- however God made us and using that for His Glory!
