Entranced With Darkness: Shedding Light On Modern Day Witchcraft

Hey guys! It’s been on my mind for awhile to write a post about America’s fascination with modern day witchcraft. It’s really surprising to me how the occult is so subtle- yet so apparent in a lot of everyday life.

I wrote a post on Wicca not too long ago, and I received some interesting feedback from people claiming to be practitioners of Wicca themselves. One of the biggest arguments for Wicca was this: people should follow what makes them happy. If it feels right and doesn’t harm anyone, you should do it.

After all, this is what our culture is obsessed with.

What is modern day witchcraft?

I was scrolling through a Pinterest board I have for my blog posts, and I clicked onto a post I’ve written on the occult. I scrolled down to see if I could find any similarly written posts, but I was greeted with this:

Witchcraft and satanism.

Guys, I found witch life hacks, tips for beginning witches, self care after casting spells, palm-reading tips, calendars for different occult rituals, and even how to care for a child as a witch.

This. Is. Real.

Modern day witchcraft is manifested even on Pinterest. This is a much bigger issue than we’d like to think.

Why witchcraft is destructive… not another path of religion.

As I said before, I received some negative feedback because people called Wicca another viable form of religion. I said it was a destructive path based on evil. And I still stand by that.

Witchcraft is not harmless. It is completely wrapped around what demons love and celebrate. So many people have been deceived and trapped by the “do what you please” mindset. But this… this is far more sinister.

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD.”  -Deuteronomy 18:10,12

Jesus claims to be the way, the truth, and the one that carries life. Not a way, a truth, and a way of life. We can’t say that we believe anything else is good or optional as truth.

What’s wrong with witchcraft?

Since witchcraft is definitely not from God, that means that it is the exact opposite. Evil. Modern witches are playing around with dark spiritual forces whether they realize it or not. It is so very sad.

This is how demons get a hold of people through possession. This is how people fall into the hands of evil and lose control of their bodies, their hearts, their minds, everything.

This. Is. Dangerous.

Why do I write about witchcraft if it doesn’t affect me?

I’ve been asked this before. Here is my answer: I care. I don’t write this because I like to be controversial or I like to be in your business. That is not it at all.

I write because… even though we haven’t met, I don’t want for you to give up your life for the occult. I don’t want for you to become so consumed in darkness that you can no longer see any light. I don’t want for you to be trapped in something you can’t get out of.

I write because I know a God that offers freedom.

Thank you for reaching the end of this post, and have a wonderful day!

  1. Witchcraft honestly terrifies me. It makes me shudder – the whole darkness and demonic involvement of it is horrifying to think about. Keep on writing, Melani – the world needs more people like you!

  2. Melani – never stop writing! People need to hear what you have to say. This is such a huge issue, and you attack it with the passion of a true prayer warrior. Thank you for not being afraid to stand up for Truth!

  3. Amen. You have really helped me understand all of this, somewhat terrifying things, way better than I did before. ❤

  4. Melani, thank you so much for standing up for what you believe in! Thank you for caring. Your caring inspires other Christians to care. Thank you so much! (And if you’re in need of encouragement, check out John 15:18 and 19.)

  5. Wonderful! I always appreciate hearing your thoughts. IKR! I was on pinterest and witchcraft stuff would show up, it’s influencing so many people in their everyday decisions.

  6. I actually never knew modern witchcraft was a thing until I saw posts about it on your blog. It’s definitely something that is good for me to be aware of, and I’m glad you are posting about this and speaking truth into peoples’ lives!

  7. My mom and I had a conversation about psychic and mediums just this morning! She knows people whose lives were totally wrecked from dabbling with the devil!

  8. Great post 🙂 My family on both sides were heavily involved in the occult so we’re a little more spiritually sensitive and a little more aware of what goes on than most people. Part of the problem is that it touts itself as harmless and fulfilling and that’s how it sucks you in. You are right to go against the flow and warn us 🙂

  9. FYI: Your ad on this post is for a tarot card reading. I’m assuming it places ads based on content, but you may want to consider disabling them for posts like this (if you can).

    1. Thank you for the warning! Unfortunately, I have no control over the ads WordPress places on here. 😣 Since I don’t have to make any payments for my blog. Thank you for your concern!

  10. You know what? I do believe that you care, in your own way. It’s actually very sweet, the earnestness with which you write. You believe what you’re saying is the only truth there is , and you’ll probably keep believing that no matter what anyone tells you.

But the truth is that witches don’t care about your deeply held beliefs, and no amount of preaching will make the vast majority of us change out ways. The truth of the matter is that a lot of us have turned to witchcraft in general, and Wicca in particular, because Christianity did us great spiritual and mental harm (and I mean Christianity as in the philosophy there of, not the people who practice it, who are often just as bad).

You obviously find a great deal of Joy and fulfillment in Christianity, and that’s alright. Unfortunately you don’t believe that the same Joy and fulfillment can be found in other places. This is…sort of distressing, because it means no meaningful debate can ever occur.
